Our home is in a small development on the outskirts of
Doué la Fontaine, an historic town in Maine-et-Loire
(49), located 15 km south west of Saumur and the Loire
river. The town has a population of around 7500 and is
famous for its roses, apples and troglodyte caves. We
very much like the bustle of living in “Doué” with its very
good weekly market and both the town centre and
countryside a five-minute walk away. Ideal cycling
country with woodlands fairly close and vineyards that
come right up to the edges of town. It is in the centre of
the auto-route system that gives us good access to both
the rest of France and England.
Most sporting tastes are catered for including the usual
hunting, fishing, walking, cycling, pallets and petanque
as well as martial arts and swimming, handball, football
and basketball. Sewing clubs, language and dancing
courses are also found in the local halls.
